Ladies Representing At The IBJJF No-Gi World Championship

Returning champs and returning from pregnancies, this year’s IBJJF No-Gi World Championship is coming up next weekend and we can’t wait to see some big names perform! The event is located in Anaheim, California. Tournament registration has reached 100% of the event capacity. We are really looking forward to some fierce fights in the female black belt divison. Take a look at our favourite picks in every divison!

In the light-feather weight division representing Absolute MMA Australia we find succesful competitor Livia Gluchowska. Check out our interview with Livia here.  The same division gives us former No-Gi World Champion from 2015, Patrícia Maria N. Fontes dos Santos from Checkmat, black belt under the legendary Lucas Leite.

In feather weight divison the explosive returning champion from last year Ana Talita de Oliveira Alencar, from Alliance Los Angeles, has signed up. In this 4 competitor bracket she will most likely face Tammi Alana Musumeci. Tammi, who is representing Caio Terra Association, earned her black belt in 2014 and has tremendous fighting spirit and always brings very entertaining fights to watch. We are really looking forward to some berimbolo action from Tammi!

Next stop: light weight divison!
Returning from pregnancy, we have Karen Deisy Antunes Girotto Borges, the former No-Gi World Champion no less than three times (purple belt 2012 and in 2013 and 2015 as a brown belt). Also representing CheckMat, Michelle Zonato Nicolini. Obviously comfortable regardless of gi or no-gi, Michelle has shown us outstanding performances in the cage. She was last seen on the jiu-jitsu mat taking bronze at the ADCC World Championship.

In the same divison there is Jena Rae Bishop from Gracie Humaita USA. Jena took double gold at IBJJF Master Worlds this August, she will also be fighting for gold and glory.

Sophia Nordenø usually goes foot-hunting

Middle weight has the most amount of fighters, with 7 competitiors in the division. Renata Marinho Moreira from Alliance SP, Catherine Fuhro Perret from CheckMat and Anna Sophia Maria Nordenø from Hilti Fight Center all earned their black belts during 2017. They’ve all have had much success as competitors in the brown belt division, will they all be entering the podium in Anaheim? Also, keep your eyes on the recent champion after IBJJF Master World Championship Amanda Loewen, SBG. Amanda has also signed up for this event in the middle weight division.

For the absolute we can’t wait to see Nathiely Karoline Melo de Jesus representing PSLPB Cicero Costha. She is alone in the medium heavy divison but we’re pretty sure she will go all in for the absolute!

Ana Laura Cordeiro is back!

In heavy weight divison 4 athletes have signed up. Experienced competitior and former No-Gi World Champion 2014 & 2016, last seen taking bronze in the +60 divison at ADCC World Championship: Jessica D. Flowers representing Gracie Barra Pasadena.

Ana Laura Cordeiro earned her black belt in 2009 from Gracie Barra founder Carlos Gracie Junior. Cordeiro hasn’t been seen in a while due to injury and she also became a mum two years ago. She is a very experienced fighter with World Champion titles from blue to brown/black. A huge welcome back at the competition scene and we’re excited to see the fights!
