These Summer Events You Simply Can’t Miss

The IBJJF World Championship has only just finished, and we’re already looking at a summer full of fights that will be so exciting you can’t miss them! Have a look at what’s coming up!

June 24th – EBI 16 The Female Bantamweights

EBI launches their second all-female tournament with EBI 16 in San Diego, California. In this 61kg/135lbs division, we see names such as Bia Mesquita, Raquel Canuto, Amanda Alequin and Bianca Basilio. The poster still features Finland’s Elvira Karppinen, who got famous after she beat Mackenzie Dern at the ADCC World Championhip. However, due to an injury we will not be seeing her this time unfortunately.

Being a submission-only format, we are confident we’ll see a lot of action from all women. For a full introduction of the card, check out this blog by BJJ Heroes. You can buy tickets here, or if you want to watch online; the event will be live on UFC Fight pass.

July 14th – Polaris 7: Samantha Cook x Venla Luukkonen

More no-gi action at Polaris 7 in London! Samantha Cook will face Venla Luukkonen in the +55kg women’s no-gi division. Samantha has made a name for herself in no-gi, when she won the ADCC European trials in 2017.

Venla however, has her weight playing in her favour and will not give up the fight easily. Find tickets for Polaris 7 here, or watch online on UFC Fight pass.

July 29th – UAEJJF Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tokyo

The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam tour starts in Tokyo. The biggest cash prize is €1500,- for the female brown/black belt winner, for each category.

Well-known names in the registrations so far feature new black belt and berimbolo-wonder Mayssa Bastos, most-feared brown belt Amal Amjahid and UAEJJF World Pro finalist Livia Gluchowska, as well as still to-be completed registrations from Nathiely de Jesus, Bianca Basilio and Larissa Paes.

For sure, more registrations will follow as the event gets closer! You’ll be able to follow the event live on Flograppling.
